Well I don't think we buried any locals this time Dee, but maybe in 25 years a few locals, archaelogists or historians might have fun digging up the time capsule. :)

The New South Wales Axemen's Association has a website http://www.nswaxemen.asn.au/ which you might find helpful. I will pass your information on to the Secretary and President of the Association, both of whom have strong links with Wandandian.

Welcome to our community Sandra. One of the best ways to get involved with our community is to come along to the Progress Association or Rural Fire Brigade meetings in the first instance. The next Progress Association meeting will be next Tuesday 7th September at 7:30pm at the Wandandian Hall and the Fire Brigade's next meeting will be the following Tuesday at 7:30pm at the Fire Station.

There is also a social Tennis group who play on Wednesday mornings at the courts adjacent to the hall. I'm sure you would be most welcome to join them.

Although it is currently out of print, one of the best sources of information about Wandandian is "Wandrawandian (Home of Lost Lovers): A History of Wandandian", by Val Windley. The Shoalhaven Library at Nowra has a copy of the book in the local history section. A revised edition of the book was begun by Val before she died a few years ago and it has been completed by her children. Plans are in place for it to be launched at the Wandandian Postal Services Sesquicentennial Celebrations which will be held in December this year.

I look forward to meeting you.

There were a number of reasons Belinda, that included low patronage by the public and insufficient stallholders. Also the markets were co-ordinated by a Progress Association volunteer who was unable to continue and no-one else in our Association was able to take over the responsibility.

It is sad, but there are lots of other markets held throughout the Shoalhaven and I think that impacted on the attendance figures.
